Camaromance: Audrey

It has been a long gap between albums for Montreal singer/songwriter Martine Groulx, but she impresses on this new single. It is a gentle and light-hearted look at girls on the town, looking for love or at least a good time.

Camaromance: Audrey

By Kerry Doole

Camaromance - "Audrey" (Simone Records):  The name Camaromance may suggest a selfies- loving photographer, but actually is the working name of Montreal singer/songwriter Martine Groulx. She will release her fourth album, Chasing Clouds, on April 6, and it is preceded by this first single.

"Audrey" is a beautiful song showcasing Groulx's clear and expressive voice, complemented by a haunting melody featuring chiming guitar.

In a label press release, Groulx explains the song's theme this way: "It is about the potential of the evening to come when friends make their way out on the town with high spirits in search of love and new adventures. Who knows? Maybe they will find Mr. Right.” If not, as the songs says, "this is just fun for tonight."

It has been eight years since the release of Camaromance's last album, The Parade, and Chasing Clouds reportedly finds her coming to terms with losses in her life. Expect intense self-searching on other songs on the record, but "Audrey" has a pleasingly light-hearted touch to it. Musically, Groulx has moved from an earlier grunge-inflected sound to Americana/folk terrain, with cello and lap steel featured. We are indeed keen to hear more.

Camaromance will launch the album with an April 4 show at Le Ministre in Montreal. Jesse Locke at Hive Mind PR is working this one.

AP Dhillon Drops Off Coachella's Second Weekend

The Punjabi-Canadian star has faced backlash in Indian media and on social media for his guitar smash on weekend one, but the festival says he's cancelling due to scheduling conflicts.

AP Dhillon is leaving the California desert behind. Coachella announced that the Punjabi-Canadian star will not appear at the festival's second weekend as planned, citing scheduling conflicts. The festival announced it in a follow up tweet to one announcing that rapper Kid Cudi has been added.

While Dhillon's first-weekend performance was well-received by the Coachella crowd and many of his supporters, he's also had some backlash due to how he closed his set, which has been widely covered by media in India.
