Bahamas: Way With Words

Bahamas - "Way With Words" (Brushfire/Universal Music Canada): One of the most keenly-awaited new Canadian albums in early 2018 is Earthtones, from soft-rock troubadour Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), set for a Jan. 19 release.

The first single, "No Wrong," did just that, racking up over half a million Spotify streams in just a few weeks, and new single, “Way With Words," is another winner.

The song was recorded in Los Angeles with the elite rhythm section of Pino Palladino (The Who, John Meyer, D’Angelo) on bass and drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers, Beck, D’Angelo) augmenting the lead vocals and guitar of Bahamas. Contributions from guitarist Christine Bougie and vocalists Felicity Williams, Robin Dann and Alanna Stuart were added later.

The breezy female backing vocals make a nice counterpoint to the typically laid-back vocal delivery of Jurvanen. The result is as soothing and pleasant as a long hot bath.

Bahamas recently announced extensive touring plans, which include a stop in Toronto at Massey Hall on Jan. 18. Dates here
