The Elwins - "Hey! Ya, You!"(Hidden Pony): Together for over a decade now, Toronto-based pop-rockers The Elwins broke through with their 2015 album Play For Keeps. The album helped them earn a 2016 Juno Award nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year while its first single, "So Down Low," amassed over 25 million audience impressions, peaked at #12 Alternative Rock, and was featured in a Canada-wide advertising campaign for Fido.
The group's latest album, Beauty Community, came out on Oct. 13, and this is the lead single. "Hey! Ya, You!" is not quite as immediately catchy as "So Down Low," but it doesn't take many spins to make a real favourable impression. Clever arrangements neatly frame such unabashedly romantic lyrics as "you can take my hand and just get attached."
All four members of the group write, and their mutually supportive approach is a crucial asset. In a press release, bassist/singer Francesco Figliomeni explains that "looking back, it kinda blows my mind thinking about all the different conversations we had about the new album and how much we supported each other through the process of making it. I guess it’s not exactly a surprise but a nice reminder that four different people with different tastes can come together and create something."
The band is now well on in an extensive North American tour that includes dates in Western Canada and Ontario, from Oct. 31 to Dec. 9. A full itinerary here
