Hey Ocean! - "Amsterdam" (Indie): It has been five years since these BC-based popsters put out their last album, the well-received IS. Members David Beckingham, Ashleigh Ball, and David Vertesi have been busy on solo records and other projects, but recently announced that they'd have a new album, The Hurt Of Happiness, set for release in early 2018.
One of the three advance tracks to surface is "Amsterdam," and it is a winner. Sporting a breezy melody, it features Ball's bright and clean vocals, propulsive percussion, tinkling keyboards, smart production. And plenty of tempo changes to keep your interest. A sweet pop confection indeed, and one with real airplay potential.
You can expect to hear the cut on the extensive cross-country tour Hey Ocean! has just commenced. Billed as “An Evening With Hey Ocean!” the shows across the country will feature two sets including new tracks, old favourites and solo material taken from three of the band members solo projects.
Hey Ocean! play Edmonton's Mercury Room tonight (Oct. 13), followed by seven more Western dates. The Eastern leg of the tour runs Nov. 14 to Nov. 24. Here's the full itinerary
