Fans who came out to Toronto’s Riot Fest last Saturday to experience what was expected to be the final performance of Alexisonfire’s brief run of reunion shows this summer were the first to receive the best possible news. Guitarist Wade MacNeil got the honours to announce during the band’s set that the St. Catharines, Ontario screamo outfit will be a full-time concern once again.
“Thank you for believing in this band when we couldn’t even believe in this band,” guitarist MacNeil said. “Thank you for sticking with us. We promise to never leave you again. No more sentimental shit. Alexisonfire is officially back.”
Prior to this summer’s reunion dates, the band had embarked on a “farewell tour” in December 2012, which culminated in a New Year’s Eve show in Hamilton. The breakup was largely said to be the result of singer/guitarist Dallas Green’s success with his City And Colour side project, and his latest album in that guise, If I Should Go Before You, is set for release through Dine Alone Records on Oct. 9th, with tour dates slated until February 2016.
There has been no official confirmation about what Alexisonfire’s next steps might be, so at this point it can be presumed that nothing will begin until Green’s commitment to City And Colour wraps up sometime next year.
